CLAIRE BENDINER

EN CLAIRE BENDINER Is an artist currently working in New York. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Delves into the abstraction of space, connecting the threads of memory and the environment. Each of his compositions is a personal window into different places and experiences. Domestic interiors, waiting room lobbies, urban circuits, underground basements and car cabins become visual metaphors for her memories and references. Claire Bendiner eschews conventional representations in favour of material and formal choices that capture the essence of these spaces. Her works do not aspire to be photographs, but to evoke thoughts that distil reality into its most basic elements: form, colour and line. Walls and partitions, previous symbols of isolation, dissolve into porous strokes. Fields of saturated colour permeate the membrane of oil and acrylic. The use of domestic paint blurs the line between art and interior design, craft and the everyday. The discontinuity between the self and the environment manifests itself in his production, capturing the disorientation we experience in transitional spaces such as airports, where conventional identities fade away. His paintings, dizzying and fleeting, trace situational awareness, revealing a paradoxical relationship to containment, both feared and longed for.
