Francisco RODRIGUEZ
ES Nacido en 1989 en Santiago de Chile, Francisco Rodríguez vive y trabaja en Londres. Sus pinturas presentan escenas ominosas en las que figuras aisladas, calaveras, torres de vigilancia, abetos y perros negros sugieren una violencia latente. Algunas de sus obras de gran formato incluyen múltiples viñetas, lo que ha llevado a compararlas con grabados japoneses o historietas. Rodríguez construye narrativas cinematográficas entre la realidad y la fantasía, utilizando una paleta reducida de negros, verdes suaves, naranjas y rojos. Inspirado en historias que escuchó durante su infancia en Santiago, explora motivos como el demonio del mediodía, un fantasma provocado por el calor sofocante. Graduado del MFA en la Slade School of Fine Art en 2018, ese mismo año participó en Bloomberg New Contemporaries y presentó una exposición individual en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Santiago. En 2021, su obra fue incluida en la Bienal de Dibujo de la Drawing Room en Londres.
EN Born, 1989, Santiago, Chile. Lives and works in London. Francisco Rodríguez paints ominous scenes where isolated figures, skulls, watchtowers, fir trees, and black dogs imply unseen violence. Some of his large works include multiple scenes, which have been compared to Japanese woodblock prints or comic strips. Rodríguez conjures cinematic narratives between reality and fantasy using a reduced palette of black, soft greens, oranges, and reds. Drawing from stories he heard growing up in Santiago, Chile, Rodríguez explores motifs such as the midday demon—a phantasm caused by the stifling heat. A 2018 Slade School of Fine Art MFA graduate, he showed that same year in Bloomberg New Contemporaries and presented a solo show at the Santiago Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2021, his work was featured in the Drawing Biennial at the Drawing Room.
